(7) Scripture ¡E¡ -2025/04/23

(HTLM) (WORD)

As you begin your walk as a Christian, you may hear unfamiliar phrases such as ghaving a personal relationship with Godh or glistening to Godfs Word.h These expressions might leave you feeling confused.

[02]

Thatfs because for someone who has just been saved, simply realizing that God loves them, that theyfve been saved, and that theyfve started attending church is already a series of new experiences. Then, on top of that, they hear about having a gpersonal relationship with Godh?something they may never have considered before. But donft worry. Having a personal relationship with God and listening to His Word are doors open to everyone. Anyone can do it. There are various ways to do this, but one of the most common is through the Word of God (the Bible).

[04]

The Bible itself is not infused with the Spirit of God, nor does simply displaying Bible verses in your home automatically bring blessings. However, when we read or listen to the words of the Bible, the Spirit of God works through them. Like defrosting frozen food, the living Word of God is given to us with life and power.

[05]

The Bible says the following:
1. What we receive through the Word is God Himself.
(John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

[06]

(Acts 7:38) He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.

[07]

2) Our spiritual nourishment
(Matthew 4:4) Jesus answered, gIt is written: eMan shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.fh

[08]

We are made up of spirit, soul, and body. The body is nourished by food, and the soul is nourished by emotional fulfillment. Likewise, the spirit also needs nourishment. One of the most effective ways to nourish the spirit is by engaging with the Word of God.

[09]

3) Light for our lives
Light to guide our path: In life, there are many times when we donft know what choice to make or how to proceed. Itfs like walking in the dark without a light.
(Psalm 119:105) Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

[10]

Therefore, we encourage you to spend time with the Bible daily?read it, reflect on its words, and let them become part of your everyday life.

[11]

4) It nurtures us
(Acts 20:32) gNow I commit you to God and to the word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.h

[12]

5) A mirror
It reflects our true selves, reminding us of where we stand and what may be lacking in us.
(Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

[13]

6) A tool through which God speaks
God speaks to our hearts. He never speaks in a way that contradicts the Bible. If our hearts are filled with the Word, we can receive His voice more easily.

[14]

¡ How to Receive the Word
1. Read a little each day
At our church, we recommend starting by reading the Bible from the beginning. If youfre willing, you can read the entire Bible in one year. The Bible has 1,189 chapters, so if you read 3?4 chapters a day, anyone can finish it in a year.

[15]

We send daily emails with Bible passages. You can engage with them at four different levels of commitment:
(1) Just read the commentary in the email
(2) Read the referenced Bible passage (based on gLiving Lifeh)
(3) Reflect on the passage
(4) Read the additional chapters listed at the end of the email for reading the Bible in a year

[16]

As you continue reading, there will be parts you donft understand. From an efficiency standpoint, you might think itfs better to read commentaries or books explaining the Bible. Of course, such learning can be helpful. However, building a habit of receiving directly from Scripture creates a solid foundation for your life.

[17]

Because the Bible is the living Word of God, even after many years of walking in faith, it continues to speak to us afresh. Without the habit of receiving directly from Scripture, we can end up bound by old interpretations and outdated understanding.

[18]

The one who helps us understand the Bible is the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit), so itfs important to always rely on Him. So keep reading the Bible, and if therefs anything you donft understand or have questions about, write them down. Later, you can ask your pastor or another teacher.

[19]

All the wisdom and power of the God who created the universe is condensed into this one book. Even if you understand only a little, just touching a part of it is a wonderful experience.

[20]

2) Through messages (sermons) at church
If reading the Bible for yourself is like daily home cooking using the ingredients, then the messages at church are like seasonal gourmet meals prepared by a skilled chef, or like a therapeutic diet to correct imbalances. Pastors and teachers deliver Godfs Word that offers comfort, encouragement, challenge, and direction.

[21]

There is also a live broadcast on YouTube, so we encourage you to listen to it even if you cannot attend the Sunday service.

[22]

3) Foundational and other group Bible studies
In small groups, you can study the Bible in a way that directly addresses your specific needs and questions.

[23]

4) Memorization
Memorizing Scripture is not just about storing knowledge in your mind. It is stored in your heart and spirit.

[24]

5) Reading aloud
Reading the Word aloud is a form of confession. It builds your faith. (Hebrews 10:23)

[25]

6) Listening
gFaith comes from hearing the messageh (Romans 10:17). Reading aloud also means hearing it with your own ears. There are also free apps that offer dramatized audio readings of the Bible?these are another great option.

[26]

7) Bible commentaries
While it is important to receive directly from the Word, it is also valuable to learn from thousands of years of biblical interpretation and study. By reading commentaries or listening to Bible school lectures, you can deepen your understanding of Scripture.

[27]

8) SCG Bible School
In the future, we plan to open a Bible school where teachings available on YouTube and participation in foundational studies will count as course credits.
